What is the big three?
Your big three are your Sun, Moon and rising sign. The Sun sign is the one most people know, the sign the Sun was in on your birthday: your core self and what lights you up. The Moon sign is your inner life: what you need to feel safe and how you handle feelings. The rising sign, or Ascendant, is the sign coming up on the eastern horizon at your birth moment: how you meet the world and how people see you at first.
Together they say far more than a Sun sign alone, which is why so many people share their big three instead of just their sign.
How to find your big three
- Enter your birth date and tap Show my big three. Your Sun sign shows right away.
- Open "Add birth time and place" and enter the time on your birth certificate.
- Start typing your birthplace and pick it from the list. The rising sign needs it, because it depends on where on Earth you were born.
- Read your three signs, then save or share your card. It never shows your birth date, time or place.

How accurate is it?
We checked the math against the Swiss Ephemeris, the reference most astrology software uses, on 50 made-up births: every Sun, Moon, Venus, Saturn and rising sign matched, with the worst planet position within 12 arcseconds.
Without a birth time, the calculator shows the Moon sign only when the Moon stayed in one sign all day, and says which two signs are possible when it did not.
Questions
What is my big three in astrology?
Your Sun, Moon and rising sign. Enter your birth date, time and place in the calculator above to see all three on one card.
Can I find my big three without a birth time?
You get your Sun sign, and often your Moon sign, from the date alone. The rising sign changes about every two hours, so it needs your birth time and place.
Which matters most: Sun, Moon or rising?
None of them wins. Many astrologers read the Sun as who you are becoming, the Moon as what you need, and the rising sign as how you start things and come across.
Why is my big three different on another site?
Usually because of the birth time or time zone. Daylight saving time in the year you were born matters too; this calculator uses each place's own history.
Why does my birth time matter?
The Moon moves about one sign every two and a half days and the rising sign changes about every two hours, so a birth time settles both. Your birth certificate usually lists it. If you don't know it, the calculator tells you which signs are possible.
How accurate is it?
We checked the math against the Swiss Ephemeris, the reference most astrology software uses, on 50 made-up births: every Sun, Moon, Venus, Saturn and rising sign matched, with the worst planet position within 12 arcseconds. A result is only as exact as the birth time you give.
Is this calculator free?
Yes. It is a free tool with no sign-up, and it runs on your phone or computer. Your birth date, time and place are not sent anywhere.
